Slovenia for Families - Skiing

Many of our winter guests take advantage of day trips to slopes in both Slovenia and Austria. We hope that the information provided by ourselves and previous guests will be helpful to you.

If you would like to contribute to our Ski reports please complete our questionnaire.

Also any photographs you would like us to post on our site would be most welcome and may give other interested parties a better idea of what the resort is like. If you discover other resorts that are not mentioned in these web pages and that are reachable within a couple of hours from your holiday accommodation in Slovenia then please let us know and we shall be happy to include them in our write up.

Skiing is by far the most popular recreational pursuit in Slovenia, counting about 300,000 enthusiasts or around 15% of the population. The resorts in Slovenia are small and for experts unchallenging but are perfect for families, are very pretty and cost a lot less than say France and Switzerland.

The latest weather and snow reports are available at www.smucisca.7-s.si

Slovenia

Mariborsko Pohorje – Slovenia.

www.pohorje.org

The biggest downhill skiing area in Slovenia is Mariborsko Pohorje (altitude 336m to 1347m), in the hills immediately south of Maribor in Stajerska, with 65km of linked pistes suitable for skiers of all levels. It offers a ski and snowboard school, equipment rental, and floodlit night skiing as well as being a good starting point for ski touring through the forest hills of the Pohorje. Each year it hosts the Zlata Lisica (Golden Fox) competition, the opening event in the calendar of the woman’s slalom and giant slalom world championship.

We can recommend an apartment in Maribor that’s pretty close to the slopes and is available for short or long term rental. Please enquire for more details

A new motorway was completed at the end of 2008 which means Maribor can be reached from Murska Sobota in 30 - 40 minutes, making the Pohorje ski slopes very assessable for guests wishing to stay in our rental cottages.
